Inventec Responsible Sourcing of Minerals
Responsible Minerals - Conflict Minerals
Conflict minerals (including tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold) originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) or adjoining countries are mined and sold under the control of armed groups to finance conflict characterized by extreme levels of violence, such as human right abuses. The USA passed the Dodd-Frank Act and enacted Section 1502 of the Act to require certain companies to disclose their use of conflict minerals if those minerals are “necessary to the functionality or production of a product” manufactured by those companies.
Inventec incorporates conflict minerals into responsible minerals and manages them together. As an RBA/RMI member, following the basic principles set out in the "OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas" formulated by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and expects our suppliers to comply with the requirements for conflict-free minerals. Our commitment and actions are as follows:
  • Require our suppliers to conduct commercially reasonable due diligence on their supply chains to ensure that conflict minerals used in products supplied to Inventec are conflict-free.
  • Upon the detection of Conflict Minerals being used in the commodities supplied to Inventec, we request our suppliers to promptly notify us and switch to using minerals sourced from RMAP qualified smelters for the provision of commodities to Inventec.
  • With the goal of fulfilling customer requirements and international regulations, Inventec has conducted suppliers conflict minerals survey program based on Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) since 2011 and has launched e-investigation via the iSupplier portal since 2013.
Responsible Minerals - Expanded Minerals
The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) released the Responsible Minerals Report Template (EMRT), which collects information to know the source of minerals and avoid using illegal operation risks. Currently, minerals include cobalt and natural mica.
Inventec also included expanded minerals in the management of responsible mineral procurement and conducted annual due diligence. Our suppliers are required to meet the requirements for qualified procurement. Inventec expects our suppliers tocomply with the requirements of Extended Minerals. Our commitments and actions are as below:
  • With the goal of fulfilling customer requirements and international regulations,Inventec has conducted an Extended Minerals survey program based on Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) to request that our suppliers undertake commercially reasonable due diligence with their supply chain to assure cobalt minerals and mica minerals used in products supplied to Inventec must comply with Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP) standards since 2018.
  • Upon the detection of Extended Minerals being used in the commodities supplied to Inventec, we request our suppliers to promptly notify us and switch to using minerals sourced from RMAP qualified smelters for the provision of commodities to Inventec.
